For My Mother

I was going through some papers last night and came across a letter I wrote to my mother a year or so ago and wanted to share it. I hope after reading this you feel compelled to share love, not just to your mother...maybe patch a bridge that was burnt long ago with a sibling, a father, or a friend. I took out the name of my friend for his privacy. I'm sitting at work writing this to email you when I get home. I'm working tonight for a friend. His grandmother is dying and sadly will probably pass before you get this. He called to tell me how things were and that his mom and aunt are with her. My friend's mother sits with a bible in her lap reading outloud to her mother. After talking with him for awhile he hangs up to be with his family and I am left to look within myself. I think what would I do, what would I say, how would I feel? I know one day God will separate us and I think on it. Will there be screams or silent tears? Will there be "why God" or "th...

Another moment lost

So I log into my fave radio station home page and see this story. I've been hearing bits and pieces on my way to work and now I have the whole understanding and i'm a bit upset. The radio station gave away cosmetic surgery as a prize....yes a prize! The young woman who won had a great story and I know she deserves the help, but here's my beef. How many people out there, children and adults, could use this more? I would love to have seen the station give this "prize" away to a person who really needed it....a burn victim, someone who had terrible scars, someone who couldn't afford to have a procedure like that done. I'm not knocking liposuctions, or breast augmentations, but really that's the best we can do? I love listening to that radio station, but to be honest...I may not listen anymore. I am so deeply saddened by this. Am I off base or does that just seem wrong? I mean the young woman who won was very thankful for the help and couldn't afford t...

The struggle of a lifetime???

So here it is three months into a new year and I am looking in the mirror thinking, what was my new years resolution again lol. A look around my computer room shows the tell tale signs of the struggle against the "battle of the bulge"... a woman on the cover of some random magazine that lost 3 dress sizes by eating some "super food" that doesn't seem like anything I want to eat. And it's everywhere I look...the internet, the news, the grocery store, the gas station....the list goes on to the point I want to scream "Hey just cause I am not a size 2 doessn't mean I am not beautiful!" (Nothing agaisnt any size 2's out there lol) Why do we as a society feel the need to publish more and more pictures and articles making any person who doesn't fit in the little media box idea of "perfect" feel inadequate? In past eras a person with a fuller figure was the epitome of beautiful, but now I see "plus size" models and I think i...
